Claims adjuster
The Get It Right Initiative (GIRI) in 2024 published 'The GIRI Insurance Guide: A perspective on risk management for construction projects' describes a claims adjuster as someone who 'decides how much an insurance company should pay for a claim; reviewing the details of the case, determining the liability and issuing an offer to the customer. If this offer is rejected, the adjuster may negotiate or seek further input from legal specialists.'
A loss adjuster is defined as: ‘an independent professional individual who is engaged by insurers to settle large or complex claims.' b the Insurance Policyholder Taxation Manual, published by HM Revenue & Customs on 19 March 2016.
